In recognition of the growing congestion problem in the Atlanta metropolitan area and across the State of Georgia, the State Road and Tollway Authority has recently kicked off three studies under the Federal Highway Administration's Value Pricing Pilot Program. All three studies will focus on examining innovative solutions for improving transportation efficiency and mobility of Georgians.

I-75 South Managed Lanes
This study will examine the feasibility of implementing priced managed lanes to add capacity to the existing I-75 South corridor between the southern end of I-285 and State Route 16 near the City of Jackson. The study team will analyze stated preference surveys, traffic and revenue data as well as existing conditions to develop 8 alternatives for increasing mobility along this corridor efficiently.

Savannah Northwest Toll Expressway
The Northwest Toll Expressway study will examine the feasibility of implementing a new alignment near State Route 21 and the Port of the Savannah. This new alignment will be analyzed to determine if Truck Only Toll lanes would be a feasible solution to the congestion or if other alternatives may prove viable. The study team will use truck surveys and motorist stated preference surveys as well as analyses of the existing conditions to assist in this feasibility test.

GA 400 Institutional Analysis
The third study will examine the feasibility of moving from a fixed-toll system to a variable-toll system on the tolled portion of Georgia 400. The study team will analyze current traffic conditions, queuing times at the Toll Plaza, and market survey responses to assess whether moving to the variable-toll system would mitigate the bottleneck at the Toll Plaza.
